Tuesday Night Workout

The Tuesday night workout we had quite a few bodies attending. We usually start the summer by having most of the players there and then it is hit and miss for most of them because of reunions, work, and camps. We broke our players into two groups and had one group in the weight room and the other outside doing a workout. The inside group did the following lifts: Power Cleans, Squats, Hang Snatches, Lunges, Step ups, Shoulder Press, Core Machine Lift, and Lateral hops. The outside workout consisted of flipping tires, pulling sleds, medicine ball workout, and boxes. We do each one for about 45 minutes and then switch the kids so that they do each one. We have done this all summer long every Tuesday and Thursday. We had a good turn out last night now that we are getting close to the season. We have great attendance at the first and the last of the summer but in the middle of the summer it is not as good.

  1. Hey Mike,
Sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck on the upcoming season. I love the football season. It is a nice time of the year.

  2. It is great to see the payoff from dedicated athletes. There was a running back at my former school who was one of ten children. The family ran a farm and a small but busy landscaping business. The sons in the family pretty much ran the business and helped out on the farm when they weren't doing that. I remember hearing about one time when one of these kids was late to practice by five minutes. He began running automatically, which was required if you were late. Since he was never late the coach asked him why he was. He replied that he was loading hay by hand until two in the morning.

Most kids who had been in that situation would have skipped practice. This one had obviously been made out of something rare and hard to find these days.

  3. These kids definitely work hard! I keep telling my girls that I am going to do the soccer trainings with them. Working that hard would definitely get us all in better shape. They don't want me there embarrassing them.

  4. Our Tuesday-Thursday workouts made a big difference for us as we went into team camp at Millard. It was easy to see those who have put in the time to staying in shape.
